Proud ( and excessive) pipe smoker, virulent talker, quasi-abstemious, his spacious presence has had the bad taste to fill the nights in Madrid with puffs for more than ten years.

Writer and author of three novels and an essay, it stays admirer of Jack Daniel’s.

‘Ariza’, his first published novel, written with Isabel del Rio, it tells the Medina family history and its two realities: one metaphoric travel through the time and a real travel by train through the Central Plateau of Spain.  ‘Ariza’ is magic and time, and symmetry in this eternal search for truth.

Prodigious drinker of absinthe.

‘A Century of Ashes’, author’s first novel published in solitary, it goes back of the Old South of the United States and tells a story of hatred and violence, of mixed feelings, of arrogant men and ruthless women. Told with humor, however it brings us to the darker side of the human being: from the greatness to utter pettiness.

Magnanimous brandy taster.

‘Eminescu’s 7 Sins’ is inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy. It recounts the torments of a poet, up to the madness or sanity: if we are speaking about literature, we never know the border.

Quasi-religious French champagne gourmet.

‘Propaganda, lies and editing’ is a foray into the land of thought and the influence of propaganda in film and in the social and ethical norms of our society.

He has also written in the media and as a literary curiosity: he has invented his own cocktail.

He has given numerous lectures about Kabbalah, cinema, arts… and it is possible, if we ask in advance, that he can speak about James Joyce, his favorite author.

He dedicates himself completely to literature and he has never worked (or will)… in something else than the literature.

You can usually see (and hear) him in the bars in Madrid. They say he has already paid the studies of the children of several bartenders.

Martin Cid was born in Oviedo (Spain), in 1976. He has publised two novels “Ariza” (2008, Alcalá Publishers) and “Un Siglo de Cenizas” (2009, Akron Publishers), and an essay “Propaganda, Mentiras y Montaje de Atracción” (editorial Akrón, 2010).

He goes deeply into broken characters, facing their souls. A new myth is appearing from a text based on ancient and foreign civilizations, languages and crossed masks, reflections among fiction and real life. Past rewrites present as present overwrites past. It is a world composed of lilts, whispers and foggy sounds. The legacy of the literary context creates a story under the story, sculptures from any other world.
He was the editor of the bilingual magazine Yareah.

Martín Cid (http://www.martincid.com), quien se define a sí mismo como “orgulloso (y desmedido) fumador de pipa, virulento conversador, cuasi-abstemio, de espaciosa presencia que ha tenido el mal gusto de llenar la noche madrileña con bocanadas de humo durante más de diez años” y que ha publicado las novelas “Ariza” (2008 editorial Alcalá), “Un Siglo de Cenizas” (2009 editorial Akrón), “Los 7 Pecados de Eminescu” (e-book) y tocado recientemente el campo del ensayo con “Propaganda, Mentiras y Montaje de Atracción”, acaba de fundar un periódico digital, Las Libertades,  donde pretende dar foro a toda clase de artículos que “atenten contra el sentido común y la serenidad”.

Martín Cid fundó también hace dos años, junto a la escritora Isabel del Río (http://www.isabeldelrio.es), la revista cultural y bilingüe Yareah magazine (http://www.yareah.com) desde donde ha promovido jóvenes autores y artistas de más de 50 países diferentes. Con esta nueva iniciativa pretende adentrarse en otro campo:

-Soy una persona inquieta –ha declarado el escritor- y creo en la palabra escrita como medio de desarrollo personal y de evolución social. Un foro de intercambio de ideas (no políticamente correctas) es ahora necesario para ahuyentar la soledad de quienes todavía tenemos ganas de decir y necesitamos sitios de diálogo en un país cada vez más estandarizado y restrictivo. Invito a colaborar y compartir a todos los que quieran huir de la mediocridad.
